The Khaitan School marked the World Dance Day by organizing an Odissi performance under the aegis of Spic Macay. Renowned Odissi exponent Smt. Kavita Dwibedi and her team comprising of Manas Kumar Sarangi on Mardal, Suresh Kumar Sethi as vocalist and Yar Mohammad on sitar conducted the workshop. Dance lovers and senior school students were the viewers of the enthralling performance by Kavita Dwibedi.Kavita Ji started with the introduction of the artists and the history of Odissi which was followed by a short piece of Pushpanjali – an invocation to the divine, which was dedicated to Lord Shiva – Natraj, Lord of dance, done in pure dance technique.
Next was her exemplary performance called ‘Pallavi’ Like a bud that gets transformed to a flower, her dance also started on a slow beat and finished with swift and fast beats. This was followed by a Abhinayan Nritya which displayed the mother’s emotions expressed on seeing her child’s prank and various mood swings.She culminated her performance by displaying the emotions of Radha who is looking for Krishna in the verses from ‘Kahi bhale murli’. An interactive session with the aspiring dancers and curious audience served as a good ice breaker.The stage turned into a divine temple for the maestro and her enchanting performance recreated a sacred atmosphere in the auditorium.
