SPIC MACAY WORKSHOP

The Khaitan School, organized a kathak performance under the aegis of Spic Macay, Virasat Series. Renowned kathak exponent Pt. Deepak Maharaj and his team comprising of Pranshu Chaturlal on Tabla, Zakki Ahmed as Vocalist and Mohammad Ayyub on Sarangi conducted the workshop. Dance lovers and senior school students were the viewers of the enthralling performance by Deepak Maharaj. Deepak Ji started with the introduction of the artists and the history of Kathak and also that he is the 8th generation artist. He continued his performance by doing various permutation and combination of ‘teen taal’ i.e. 16 beats, 6 ‘Upaj’, ‘Thaai’ and various other hand, body and eye gestures to exhibit different elements of nature and emotions.Deepak Ji’s, ‘Paran’ and Jugal bandi wherein the ‘nayak’ is the tabla and ‘nayika’ is the ‘gungroo’ left the spectators mesmerized.He culminated his performance by displaying the emotions of Radha who was looking for her Krishna in the gadh ‘makan chor’. An interactive session with the aspiring dancers and curious audience captivated and held their attention till the end.The stage turned into a divine temple for the maestro and his enchanting performance recreated a sacred atmosphere in the auditorium.

Principal Mrs. D. Kaur welcomed the guests with floral bouquets and complimented the dancer and his team for an intense and overwhelming display of art.
