The Khaitan School marked the World Dance Day by organizing an Odissi performance under the aegis of Spic Macay. Renowned Odissi exponent Padam Shri Guru Smt. Geeta Mahalik and her team comprising of Prasanta Bahera as vocalist, Prashant Maharana on pakhawaj & Dhiraj Pandey on flute conducted the programme. Dance lovers and senior school students were the viewers of the enthralling performance by Smt. Geeta Mahalik.Geeta ji started with the introduction of the artists and the history of Odissi which was followed by a short piece of Mangalacharan – an invocation to the divine, which was dedicated to Goddess Mahadevi – which was a combination of pushpanjali, bhumi pranam, tri khandi pranam and devi stuti.Next was the exemplary performance called “Pallavi” based on Raag Kalyan Pallavi performed by Smt. Geeta Mahalik’s disciple Samridhi Prakash, a student of class XI.This was followed by an expressional dance based on Ram Stute based on Swati Tirunals poetry. An interactive session with the aspiring dancers and curious audience was very well appreciated by the artist and the audience.The workshop was culminated by Geetaji educating the students about the importance of Swachhta and the role of students in imparting the knowledge to their family, friends and neighbourhood .The stage turned into a divine temple for the maestro and her enchanting performance created a sacred atmosphere in the auditorium.Principal Mrs. D. Kaur welcomed the guests and complimented the danseuse and her team for an intense and overwhelming display of art.
