The Khaitan School under the aegis of Spic Macay organized a sitar performance in the school premises on 29th October, 2015.

Renowned Sitar exponent Maestro Shubhendra Rao and his team comprising of Zuheb Ahmed Khan on Tabla and his Mexican disciple Hector on Tanpura enthralled the students by their spectacular performance.

Shubhendraji started with the introduction of his artists and the history of the usage of Sitar as a musical instrument and traced it back to as old as 400 -700 years. He believes that as painting is done on an empty canvas, music is done in complete silence. It’s a meditation which soothes the soul.

The first 10 min of his performance was based on Raag Parameshwari – a vandana of Maa Saraswati, during this time the audience were in a reflective, meditative mode.

Further compositions and the Jugalbandi of sitar, Tabla and Tanpura turned the stage into a divine temple for all present.

Shubhendraji culminated with a short piece in Raag Bharavi.

Principal Mrs. D. Kaur welcomed the guest with bouquets and complimented the artist for an intense and over whelming display of art.
