18 students of TKS accompanied with 2 teachers attended the Commemorative Event of 150thBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organized by FICCI on Nov 19,2018 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi .The chief guest of the event was Shri Venkaiah Naidu, the Honorable Vice President of India . The objective of the programme was to create a business and cultural platform based on vision and philosophy of Gandhiji . Various speakers for the event included Smt. Rajashree Birla, chairperson,FICCI , Dr. Vinai Kumar Saxena , Chairman , Khadi And Village Industries Commission , Dr. Sudarshan Iyengar, Former Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith , Ahmedabad , and Shri Parameswaran Iyer , Secretary , Ministry Of Drinking Water And Sanitation . A cheque of 32 lakhs was presented by Honorable Vice President to Dr. Vinai Kumar Saxena on behalf of Aditya Birla Centre For Community Initiatives and Rural Development.Dr. Vinai in his speech emphasized that once villagers are empowered country itself is empowered . Khadi Industry has shown a phenomenal growth of 37.1 % in 2018 , and efforts must be undertaken to give it a brand name . In his keynote address , the Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that Gandhiji has left his ideals and thoughts but wearing a Gandhi Cap or naming a street road or institution is not enough. We need to follow his preachings . He stressed that we have two India’s – one highly modernized urban India and other rural India with very limited facilities . The government and people must plan for the upliftment of this rural India . He emphasized that these types of celebrations must be aimed to inspire the future generation . By removing poverty , illiteracy and discrimination on caste , a rural tribute will be rendered to Gandhiji . He also stressed that ‘ Ballot is more powerful than a Bullet’ . He urged all to be self reliant , follow the thoughts of Gandhiji , and to be a part in development of the country . The programme ended with rendition of the National Anthem . It was a great learning experience for the students.
