Gandhi Jayanti this year has a special connotation as it marks the 150th birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. Events are held across the country to remembering the great leader who gave freedom to our country following the path of non- violence. On similar lines special events were organised in The Khaitan School, Noida to commemorate the occasion. Students of the school participated in ‘Rangotsav’ – a wall painting event and a plogging drive- ‘to pick up waste while jogging’ on 2nd October, 2019 to spread the message of Gandhiji ‘Cleanliness is Godliness’. Principal, Mrs. D. Kaur, Headmistress and the Coordinators initiated the run by addressing the students. The large group of students undertook the run in the main streets of Sector 40, Noida raising slogans of “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat” and “Swachhta hi sewa hai” and moved from shop to shop , Sai temple and park to distribute paper bags to vendors, maids, sweepers and residents along the way. They visited the Mother Dairy outlet and handed over paper bags to the senior citizens and morning shoppers sensitizing them to use paper bags instead of plastic. Plastic garbage collection was also done from the streets, park and open spaces along the path of the run followed by a video on the life and teachings of Mahatma were shown. A poster making activity was organised by primary on values learnt by them from the life of Gandhi.
For The Khaitan School, Noida, the celebrations of this great occasion was not confined to this day, but was a culmination of series of activities and event which had started approximately a year hitherto 2nd Oct 2019.
Way back on 19th November 2018, A group of students of the school visited FICCI Auditorium for an event celebrating birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi . The event was graced with the presence of honourable Vice President, Mr. Venkiah Naidu.
Further the Government of India initiated a ‘Swachta hi seva’ programme to highlight its belief of clean nation. In an attempt to give emphasis to the holistic development of students, The Khaitan School conducted the CBSE Expression Series on the life, vision and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi from 19th to 30th August 2019. Various events were organised like Painting competition for the middle school, Poem writing competition for secondary school and Essay writing competition for senior secondary school.
The students also participated in online article writing, Essay writing and Video making Interschool Competition “Gandhi – Ek Soch”
Students of our school participated in essay writing competition organised by Hindustan Times on the topic ‘which of Gandhis teaching or principles are closest to your heart’. All these articles were sent for a special page on Gandhijis 150th birth anniversary. Along with articles some visual inputs were also sent.
The government initiated a ‘ swatchta hi sewa’ program from 1st to 15th September,2019 to highlight Gandhijis belief that ‘cleanliness is next to godiness’. Our school participated in the cleanliness drive observed community outreach, green school drive, and segregation of waste for implementing swachta in school.
Our students also took part in various interclass competitions namely debate, Essay writing and Art competition under the aegis of DIOS on 25th and 26th September, 2019 to celebrate the 150th birth year anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.
A special assembly was held to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The assembly started with a thought, amazing fact and word of the day on the ideals of Gandhi ji. A talk was presented on the various activities namely elocution, essay writing, poster making etc. held in the school premises on the values of Gandhiji. A mesmerizing song ‘de di humein aazadi bina khadag bina dhaal’ was presented by the music students. Parent representatives Dr. Kanan Divetia and Mr. Mathur enlightened the students with incidents from Gandhiji’s childhood. They spoke about the principles of Mahatma. Quotes of the leader were also presented by students in an effective manner by holding placards and banners. Principal Mrs. D Kaur appreciated the efforts put in by the students and complimented the parents on beautiful expression of their ideas. She motivated the students to follow the principles of Gandhiji in their life and lead the path of righteousness. The assembly ended with a rendition of the National Anthem.
In sequel to this initiative the New Delhi YMCA and department of program, cultural and tribal committee organised a seminar on 1st Oct 2019 on the topic ‘Relevance of Gandhi in today’s world’, which was attended by the students of The Khaitan School, Noida.
All these activities which were held over a span of a year have left an significant impact on the mind-set of students and staff to make them understand the significance of Gandhian principles and philosophy of non- violence importance of cleanliness.
