To celebrate the joy of reading books, our school observed Reading Week from 9th September to 15th September 2019. Reading books plays a pivotal role in exposing a child to a world of words, dreams and characters. The Primary Wing of TKS conducted various activities and the main objectives behind celebrating the same were; to make students understand the value of reading and inculcate the reading habit amongst them.
The various activities conducted during the week-long celebrations were-
- READING APPOINTMENT AT MY CHILD’S SCHOOL
A fun-filled and exciting activity was the storytelling session where Parent of Aaradhya Yadav, Class ID,Parent of Siddhansh Mishra, class I E and Parent of Dishika, class 2D were invited to narrate stories.
They narrated the stories of The crocodile and the monkey, The three Pigs and The clever Fish respectively using different props and handouts. The stories narrated were very interesting and with lots of fun. The students thoroughly enjoyed this fun-filled day.
2)LUNCH BENCH BUDDIES
Another
interesting activity conducted was “lunch bench buddies” with an aim to encourage reading habit among children.
The students read their favourite books in silence while enjoying their
delicious meal. The activity was conducted under the supervision of the
respective class teachers.
The students were encouraged to form reading clubs and exchange their books.
3)BOOK BUDDIES
The most exciting activity for the student was to pair them and to make them read storybooks to each other. After which they narrated the story to the class too.
4) READATHON
Apart from all the activities which were conducted on a daily basis, there was READATHON. It was conducted in all classes for inculcating a love for reading for pleasure in the students. The students were encouraged to bring a book they were currently reading/ their favourite book for the activity. Everybody was excited to read as the FASTEST READER was to be rewarded by the class teacher. The students were engaged in reading for pleasure for an hour. They shared their favourite parts/ characters/ dialogues from the books as well. It was an enriching and enjoyable activity for everyone.
5) ROLE PLAY
A role-play activity was performed by class IV students in Hindi. Students enacted plays from their textbooks and performed them with the help of props.
