Book Talk Session on “Gabriel-Ernest” by Saki

 

 

On August 5, 2024, a captivating Book Talk session on Saki’s “Gabriel-Ernest” was conducted at the Middle School library of The Khaitan School, Noida. Organized by Ms. Sonika Srivastava, the event was attended by Grade VII students and honored by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Curriculum Head Ms. Preeti Gambhir, Subject Lead of the English Department Ms. Inderjeet Kaur, and the school librarian Ms. Kavita Srivastava.

The session began with Ms. Sonika Srivastava guiding the students through a rich and engaging discussion about the story. “Gabriel-Ernest,” known for its unique blend of dark humor and subtle horror, provided the perfect material for an in-depth exploration of its themes, characters, and stylistic elements. Ms. Sonika’s insightful approach allowed the students to delve deeper into the narrative, sparking a lively exchange of thoughts and reflections

 

Participants expressed their admiration for Saki’s storytelling prowess, particularly his ability to blend different genres seamlessly. Many students shared their newfound appreciation for the enduring relevance of the story, noting how Saki’s skillful crafting of the narrative continues to resonate with modern readers. The discussion highlighted the complexity of Saki’s writing, revealing layers of meaning that the students found both thought-provoking and intriguing.

 

Ms. Inderjeet Kaur, the Subject Lead of the English Department, reinforced the importance of attending such book talks and encouraged the students to develop a habit of reading widely. She emphasized how engaging with diverse literary works like “Gabriel-Ernest” can enhance their understanding of different writing styles and broaden their perspectives.
