The Khaitan School celebrated its highly anticipated Book Week from 6th to 13th September 2024, with students from Classes 1 and 2 engaging in a week full of fun, learning, and creativity. The event aimed to inspire young learners to explore new authors, books, and illustrators, while enhancing their literary skills and nurturing a lifelong love for reading.
The week began with an introduction to Book Week, where teachers discussed famous children’s authors and their works. Among the celebrated authors, Eric Carle took center stage. His timeless stories became the focal point for various interactive activities throughout the week, bringing literature to life for the students.
In Class 1, the read-aloud day featured “Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me” by Eric Carle. Teachers used engaging props to narrate the story, captivating the students’ imaginations. Following the story, the students participated in a delightful craft activity, where they made wall hangings using cutouts of moons and stars. They also shared their reflections on the story, discussing their favorite characters and themes.
Class 2 enjoyed the magic of “The Mixed-Up Chameleon”, another Eric Carle classic. The read-aloud was followed by an art activity where students colored chameleons using watercolors, bringing the character to life with vibrant hues. The next day, students explored the characteristics of chameleons, followed by a worksheet activity, deepening their understanding of both the story and the real-life animal.
The use of props and hands-on activities made the stories even more engaging for the children, who eagerly participated in each session. The event was a resounding success, with students fully immersed in the joy of storytelling, art, and discussion. Book Week not only encouraged a love for reading but also fostered creativity and curiosity among the young learners.
With a variety of activities designed to promote reading and literary appreciation, the week left a lasting impression on the students, ensuring that their love for books continues to grow.
