The Khaitan School proudly hosted its first-ever Model United Nations (TKS MUN) on the 8th and 9th of August 2024, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history. This two-day event brought together students from various schools, providing them with a unique platform to engage in debates, discuss global issues, and develop resolutions that reflect their understanding of diplomacy and international relations.
Day 1: Opening Ceremony and Committee Sessions
The event began on the morning of August 8th with a dignified Opening Ceremony. The Ceremonial Lighting of the Lamp, accompanied by an Invocation Prayer, symbolized the light of knowledge and wisdom guiding the MUN delegates in their deliberations. The principal’s warm welcome address set the tone for the event, followed by a vibrant Cultural Dance Performance that added a touch of elegance to the ceremony.
Navyaa Yadav, the Secretary General of TKS MUN, delivered the Inaugural Address, officially declaring TKS MUN 2024 open. Following the ceremony, delegates proceeded to their respective committee sessions, where they engaged in discussions on pressing global issues:
United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC): Addressed the Human Rights crisis in the Hamas-Israel conflict, chaired by Ms. Sanjhana Hariharan and Ms. Sanvi Singhal.
United Nations General Assembly (UNGA): Debated Global Solidarity towards Under-Developed nations and ensuring Environmental Justice, chaired by Ms. Alisha Jaiswal and Ms. Urvi Vachher.
All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM): Discussed the NEET UG Fiasco and its impact on India’s education system, chaired by Ms. Indrani Kaushik and Mr. Aryan Sunil.
United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW): Debated the Role of Women Leadership and Gender-Responsive Parliaments, chaired by Ms. Simran Sehgal and Ms. Nandini Braj Singh.
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Tackled Crisis Management on Planet Xanders, which has restarted its war with the Kree Empire, chaired by Mr. Lakshya Arora and Ms. Pranika.
International Press (IP): Chaired by Ms. Gunnika Arora.
Throughout the day, delegates actively participated in debates, demonstrating their understanding of complex global issues and working towards drafting resolutions.
Day 2: Committee Sessions, Prize Distribution, and Closing Ceremony
The second day began with the final rounds of committee sessions, where delegates engaged in intense debates, refining their resolutions and preparing for voting procedures. The quality of discussions was exceptional, reflecting the participants’ dedication and preparation.
Following the committee sessions, the Prize Distribution Ceremony recognized the outstanding performances of delegates. Awards were presented for Best Delegate, High Commendation, Special Mention, Best Position Paper, and Verbal Mention across all committees. The event concluded with Pallavi Upadhyay, the Deputy Secretary General, officially declaring TKS MUN 2024 closed. The ceremony provided a fitting end to two days of rigorous debate, learning, and growth.
TKS MUN 2024 was a resounding success, enhancing participants’ understanding of global issues while honing their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking. The event has set a high standard for future editions of TKS MUN, thanks to the meticulous planning and execution by the organizing committee, led by the secretariat. The Khaitan School looks forward to continuing this tradition of fostering global awareness and leadership among its students.
